I am buying my wife a camera for Christmas and have narrowed it down to two. I am not asking which is the better camera because I know where that will lead me being a first-time poster, but rather which one of these is a better deal money wise? I know both cameras are great, but what about the lenses offered for the money, that is where I am struggling?

I'm personally a Canon guys so i'd say the XSi, but not the kit lens, i'd personally think an 18-200 or 18-300 and a 50 1.8 lens?

I don't know nikon, but I'd go out on a limb and say the quality of both selections would be about the same. The Nikon 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 you list has a slightly larger aperture making it a slightly better performing lens than one with only a f/4-5.6. But you are also paying over $100 more to get it.

HOW can you get a Nikon D90 PLUS 2 lenses for $849.00 when normally, the D90 body alone sells for $999.00 ???????

I smell something fishy....

Here is the link for the D90 site. If it is a scam please let me know. I have just been scanning the net for the best deal I could find. I have seen the D90 on quite a few sites for well under $999, not just this one.

The Canon is on prestigecamera.com.

Are these both stores I should avoid?

Thanks. I had searched a few sites and hadn't seen any bad reviews. I guess I will start searching again. The Canon deal doesn't seem too far fetched, although I was pretty surprised to see the Nikon deal. I guess that may make my decision for me. I don't think I can justify the extra money it will take to bring home the Nikon.

Amazon has a promotion (save $100) when buying XSi kit (18-55mm IS lens) + 55-200mm IS lens (need to buy the products that sold by Amazon, not 3rd parties)

B&H is a good store. I got some CF cards from them this morning.

Just for your information. If you go here

http://search.live.com/cashback/stores/B

click through MS Live cash back site (after sign in), you can get 2% to 3.5% cash back from Microsoft when you buy the stuff from B&H

Also, don't forget this

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/486937-REG/SanDisk_SDSDRX3_4096R_4GB_Extreme_III_Secure.html

They are $19.95 each. And if you buy 3, you will have $60 rebate back as a VISA card. (Free after rebate). And I believe the XSi camera use SD card.
