Thanks Scott the sun light was very bad, plus the Egret was quit a ways away.

I can relate, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Bright sunlight will so easily blow-out the back of an Egret in flight. With those birds in bright sunlight it's a very, very fine line between blowing the highlights and blocking the shadows on the belly. That's why I preferred the first one, it edged up to that line very nicely.
