Black and White and tones and ripples

Shot it in June '17; finished it a minute ago. For me the gray scale ripples make it. After getting it where I wanted it, I checked the data and was surprised to see it was taken with my old iPhone 6.

My eye first catches the bright bushes and their reflection. Then it moves to the ripples, which are, as you said, fun shades of gray. Then, finally I am drawn to the black behind the bushes, which has a cool mystery. Are there pirates hiding back there?
