Black and white/color on one object

How do you do take a photo and make everything in the background black and white and one subject in color? Is that done with Photoshope? I would LOVE to know how to do this.

it can be done in photoshop, i think there area few different ways. one way i do is select what you want to be black and white and press ctrl shift U to desaturate what you have selected and then ctrl D to deselect.

You can also duplicate the layer, convert the new layer to B&W by desaturating and then using the eraser tool on the part you want in color. That always seemed easiest for me.
