Black pictures 1/4,1/2 and 3/4 screen shots

I have a Nikon D300 and recently spent the money on a Quantum Flash with remote activation. I am constantly getting these pictures that are 1/4, 1/2 and then 3/4 black screens before I get one picture that is normal. What on earht and I doing wrong?

check your fastest sync speed, and don't go above it when using flash.

Page 288 of your User's Manual. x-synch for the D300 is 1/250s.
