Her Mimi had just told her no, as she was trying to get into something, hence the look.

I'm moving into a new era with little bit. She's at that almost walking stage, with a high speed crawling gear, and absolutely refuses to sit still stage. Experimenting yesterday with the use of a bare flash on camera (bounced off the ceiling), as I tried to stay up with her. However, the flash brought a little more harshness on the skin then wanted. Used a softening mask on the face, but I'm not satisfied with the overall results. In the past I've used speedlights on stands with wireless triggers to light a wider area, but she can go from one side of the room to the other in the blink of an eye now, so that's out. Reflectors are out for the same reason. Any suggestions on what I could do in the future?

Nothing wrong with using the ceiling or a nearby wall, as long as they are white(ish). Or if someone can hold a large white card for the flash to reflect off.

I had a white reflector that I believe might have brought some light up under the chin, but I only had a couple of seconds to compose and shoot before she was on the move again. She's at that age where "everything" catches her interest at once, but for only for a second before she's on to something else.

Cute pic. Should have photoshopped some horns on the head... I would try a softbox diffuser, they seem to work well but I think the light is good. Looks like the focus is on the shoulder as opposed to the eye but I may be wrong.

Thanks JC. She's at the start of the "independent" stage. I've got umbrellas but need a modifier for the flash when on camera. I definitely missed focus on the eye. She was moving/turning so much that I switched to a multi-point mode.
