Blue Eyes

I had a lovely session with a family of three this past weekend. This is Ruby. She is 6 months and quite a joy.

Luckily she had just enough hair to attach it to. The other bows that were used had gentle bands on them like this.

Her mom had a few of them. I thought they were great, Ruby was not of the same opinion. This was her reaction most of the day. Luckily she periodically snapped into a happier mood.

Aw Ruby, what a face! She's a cutie! I like the first one, a red wagon adds nice color especially with what she's wearing.

I'd think about the framing/cropping, she's a little low in the frame (same with the second one); it might have been better being a little lower or down at her level. It would be better too without the black post/handle of the wagon showing (flipped down out of the way). The one in the partial shade looks like the exposure might need some adjustment. The face is priceless in the third one! her shoes kind of got lost in that white blanket, maybe having it folded so there would be grass showing on all sides would've been better.

The family will probably love the expressions, you got those so well!

Thanks Sharon. This was probably my toughest session yet. Ruby was woken up 15 minutes into her nap, dislikes shoes and bows, so every image I got felt like action shots LOL. I agree with all of your suggestions. With the second image, do you believe it is underexposed? I had increased the exposure but then turned it back down since I like the difference between shade and light that was coming from the sun. I know it is not a technically sound image, but I like pushing limits to learn what I can and cannot get away with.

LOL Yeah, having worked with babies and toddlers, it's a challenge sometimes! I wouldn't have known she just woke up or wasn't really having the bows so you managed to do well with her.

That dappled sunlight can be tricky, I often take maybe 3 shots of the same thing adjusting the exposure a stop each time. The poor meter doesn't know what to do! lol trying to read sunlight and shade at the same time. It looks a tad harsh to me. Maybe if you could have positioned her so her face wasn't right in that patch of sunlight.
