Blurry Background

I took this photo and wondering how exactly I could of made the background blurry and the object more in focus? I had to edit it a bit in Photoshop.

I have a cheap Canon Powershot S3is. I however will soon have enough money for a better camera.

You have to focus on the flower. It will be harder to do using an S3 but it can be done if you try (I know because I use to have an S2). Good luck.

Ok basically to blur the background and keep the flower in focus you need to open the aperture as wide as possible and shoot pretty close to the object. This keeps the depth of field really shallow allowing only the flower to be in sharp focus.

Like others said, a wide aperature and better focusing will allow you to take better closeup photos in the future. For computer editing, some programs have options for sharpening and soft focus so that if you can't take the picture with your camera, you can edit it later on.
