Body help, please!

I'm finally looking at taking the plunge and buying a DSLR in the coming months, and from what I gather, Canon and Nikon seem to be good bets for a starter like me. I started looking at a few cameras, and had a play, and decided I wasn't a great fan of the Nikon's feel, and was leaning more towards the Canon models. Then, however, I had a go with a friends Sony A65, which I loved.

Decisions, decisions! These are the bodies I'm looking at right now..

Canon 550D

Lhttp://www.jessops.com/online.store...INACTIVE-_-PRODUCTSDETAILS-_-ACANOCM205154955ike the feel of it, its at the lower end of what I'm ready to pay, which means more money for a nicer lens, and it's a Canon. My current point and shoot is a Canon and I've loved it.

Sony a55

Cheaper than my mates model, but still has the feel I enjoyed about the a65. Again I could buy a nicer lens. Like that idea. Also one of the main reasons I'm after a DSLR is because I take a lot of photos for each shot I want to make. These Sony's shoot at 10fps, which is fantastic and exactly what I want.

I can probably afford one. If it's worth it, I'll do it! Again the 10fps is what really sells me on these.

I'm yet to look into lenses fully, but I plan to purchase the body and lenses separately.

Any help or wisdoms would be much appreciated!

If i were you i would go for the Nikon D3200 (i just saw now samples of the new 24mp sensor in low light and its pretty damn impressive) - Just Posted: Nikon D3200 preview samples gallery: Digital Photography Review

though, if you HAVE to go Canon, wait for the T4i it will come out most probably in a couple of months. its not worth investing money in a 4 year sensor with the 550D, if you can, hold for a bit more, the price won't be so different because of the tight competition in the market.

Thanks, I'll have a look into the T4i and the D3200.

Having read a little more about the cameras I've already listed, I'm still leaning towards Sony, and I'm told the a65 is worth the extra cash over the a55. Although I did have a go with a Canon 600D today, which is still quite reasonable and felt great to handle.

if you have to decide between the sony and the canon, go for the canon, though as i said i wouldn't buy the 600d now, i would go for the t4i (the t3i/600d replacment) in 2 months i THINK it will come out, if you HAVE to buy now, and you can't possibly wait no longer, go for the 600d. - a 3rd option is to buy now the Nikon D3200, it has a new sensor, the 600d is 2 years old after all....that means higher res from the 24mp sensor of the d3200 and better low light performance.

Christ! Those low light samples from the 24MP sensor are good! It would seem I was wrong about being anti megapixels, I was a big megpaixel nay sayer. But the D800 is now my dream camera. Converted!

Once upon a time (5 years back) it was true that megapixles effect sensors, but today, the sensors become better quality with the advance of technology and they can somehow hold much more megapixles without the compromise of low light performance. there for you get much more dynamic range AND you HOLD the low light quality. technology is a great thing , just not for atom bombs lol . - i would like to jump 10 years to the future and see what kind of sensors we'll have then...probably D4 quality in an iPad HAHA
