Took a walk in the Botanic Gardens today, full crit. Be as harsh as you need to be

#1 Love the concept of this shot, I think it would have been awesome if you'd shot from her eye level - but I recognise the practicalities in that it's hard to get most kids to stand still long enough to get the perfect shot. I can't tell for sure (even at full size - my eyes aren't what they used to be) but it looks like it may be a little soft: were you going for a general focus on the whole scene?

#2 You nailed this nicely! Good light and choice of angle of view. The tree is marvellous, she fits into the scene nicely and really like the OOF leaves/needles/twigs (whatever they are) in the foreground.

#3 Nice use of light, same for the captured expression. The branch across the shot detracts from the overall effect and if you have PS skills I'd recommend trying to clone it out. If you do it won't be the easiest job and you may have to apply some gaussian blur to the rest of the background to compensate.

#4 Again you've captured a good expression. The exposure on her face, particularly image left, could be brought up a little in post (if I'm being picky) and the leaf she's looking at is distracting because I can't figure out where it's coming from. Good use of DOF.

Thank you for your crit! your advice is much appreciated ... below is a very rough 'edit out' of the branch. all I did was use the healing tool BUT I see it does make a difference! Thanks

Love the set! Especially #2 -- that looks fun, and the photo looks like you "peeked in" on her having fun. #4 is nice too. And I love the edited #3. I wouldn't have even attempted (myself) to edit out that branch (making notes on things I need to learn.... this is item 437,463 or thereabouts).

You have an eye for decent shots and it looks like you recognized the quality of light in some of the shots. However, the first shot the subject is way too small and there should be some light on her; she gets lost. It'd be difficult to pitch that as a large print to a client because it'd have to be huge just to make the girl register. #3 that branch should've been a major consideration when taking the photo. #4 is nice except the trees in the background don't work for me. #2 you should have worked the scene to include a more interesting pose, but some may like it.
