Just to emphasize this: gaze following is a HUGE cognitive thing. our brains are wired at a very low and powerful level to look at eyes and to follow gaze.

agreeed.. I always try to work it so the subject is gazing 'thru' the widest space of an image.. nothing worse than having a gaze looking towards the shortest side of the image, that just makes it look like they are interested in something off-camera..
