I have added another image to the bottom of this post! please look!

Met a fellow 'tographer tonight and spent the time just clicking away, most shots were pretty uninspiring but I really like this one. What do you think?

Yea i like this one, maybe a touch too much room on the right, but its a keeper. Hmm haven't been to Brighton in a while, i do like the sea front

I love the motion blur on the flags--SUCH a nice but small touch! I'e never seen this pier except in photos. The photo was made at a lovely time of the day,and I really like the way the water is rendered, and the way the lighting underneath the pier is rendered. If I had a suggestion on how the photo might be improved, it would be to make roughly the same angle of view, perhaps a bit narrower, and with a longer focal length lens, so as to make the back areas of the pier appear physically larger in the final photo...as-shot, the farther reaches of the pier and its structures drop off in physical size.

Yeh definately, personally I think the biggest challenge of photographing this pier is it's length. It's extremely long, if you look on google maps brighton pier - Google Maps you can see that the Pier is longer than a lot of roads in Brighton. I think the best way to capture it would be a panorama.

Damn, that IS long!!

A trestle over water.

A nice shot.

Is it actually for mooring boats or simply a tourist attraction?

Sorry Ron my sea speak isn't so great, how do you mean?

I think of a pier (maybe wrongfully) as a place to tie up boats/ships to provide a conduit to land. In this case it looks like a place of entertainment.

I like it sam. Banging on the thirds pretty well there. Nice image man.
I couldn't help myself. Hope you don't mind. Wanted to see what it would look like with some of the sky on the water.

Ah I getcha, yeh this Pier is almost a landmark for Sussex now. It's got a funfair on the end (that large pole like structure at the end is a giant arm that's a ride. The arm spins people round and over the water!) It's got some pretty cool Victorian style architecture on the pier itself, even the safety railings have nice patterns.

No worries! You can use the markings on the D90's focus points to get a pretty bang on thirds shot. Looks nice!

Ron,Ron,Ron, dude! That's so narrow-minded...that's like saying the circus is only a place "to watch clowns", when we all know it's also a great place to meet chicks! Or like saying a baseball game is "only about watching baseball", when we now it's also a great place to shout drunken profanities at a man wearing a sportcoat, mask, and a chest-protector...

I went to a circus once, about age 10, I collected pop bottles from ditches to get enough money to go by myself. Best part was on the way in & I saw elephant turds. Never met any chicks.

Went to a baseball game in Detroit with my parents one time to see an Evers playing for the home team. Gaud was that boring.

Was looking through the images I took and found another nice composition, the lighting isn't as nice but I think I prefer this one, thoughts?
