These are two shots I took on my way to work, or rather attempt to get to work yesterday. This shows the Ipswich Motorway at Oxley, about 15km south-west of Brisbane CBD. (click on images to view higher resolution)

is that end of the road or road submerged into the flood waters? Today i read in news papers about an ill fated mother and son who were swept away by flood water from the top of their car, where as the second son was saved by another person

That's the main highway that leads to the city centre, completely submerged. The water is about 4 m deep by the third light pole.

Yeah, there are quite a few sad stories like that, it's really difficult time for Queensland.

Quality is excellent and sharp and your composition is great in both. For a newspaper, I feel the second would be best. These type of shots are always better with people in them. I think you nailed them.
