Bushtit (4)

[squirl033]

Found this female bushtit gathering lichen for her nest at a natural area in Seattle yesterday... She was quite oblivious to me, and landed less than 20 feet away to collect nesting material.

The female has pale yellow irises, while the males are dark brown. Just about the only way to tell the sexes apart short of lifting feathers...

Great set! Small flighty birds that are hard to find sitting still.

What a beautiful bird! I don't recall seeing one. Super nice set!

Very nice. Never seen one before either.

Nice set, but photo #2 is really striking, I just really, really like that one the most of these.

Great set, I'm with Derrel, nr 2 is excellent. Haven't seen this kind of tit yet, thanks for sharing.

Thanks, guys! Derrell and Goooner, #2 is actually my favorite as well. An unconventional pose for a bird photo, and the slightly high-angle view really set it apart for me.

I misread the title, and it was a pleasant surprise to see some excellent shots of an unusual bird.
