My wife thought it would be a great idea to take me to the butterfly garden right up the road from our house. I was skeptical at first but then realized it would be the ultimate butterfly photo opportunity. And a great way to get used to my new flash. Room was 80 degrees with near 100% humidity so just acclimating the camera and lenses was tricky. But once everything got used to the weather change, I was in business. Here are just a few of my favorites.

Enjoy and comments/critiques welcome as always! I'm getting more and more impressed what the T2i can do with a nice lens and some practice/experience. If I could do it again I'd shoot more f6-7 if possible but the lighting was tricky especially with the speed of these butterflies!

Thanks,
Brian

Those are some really great shots! I had a similar opportunity a couple years ago, but I only had a 5 year old Casio P&S to work with. They came out decent for what I was working with, but it'd be nice to try again with my DSLR.

The little buggers are quick, I can vouch for that! But what a perfect environment for capturing them with no need for a true macro lens.

If it's anything like the place I went to, then I imagine these butterflies feel so safe in the environment that they don't flutter away the second you get close to them. I was able to get within a few inches of some with the crappy P&S I had, and they didn't budge. It's the best kind of place if you're looking to photograph butterflies.
