I need help. I have no idea what to get, or from where.

I'm thinking an AB-800 + westcott 50 softbox?

The where is easy; from whomever will give you the best combination of price, service and speed of delivery. The "what" is somewhat more difficult. What do you want to light, under what conditions, in what size a space, and what is your budget? More importantly, do you even need a strobe, or could that money better go to something else? Talk!

Keep in mind that for a softbox to attach to a studio light, it has to have the correct 'speed ring'. So you can't just mix & match lights & softboxes without making sure you have the right type of connection.

If you want to get an AB light, then go with one of their softboxes.

Unless you need it right away, keep your eye on the local craigslist. I've seen some good deals on the Cleveland one (even though it's not very active, sadly).
