buying used lenses

i'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but i looked around and couldn't see a for sure right place. has anyone ever bought used lenses from amazon.com vendors? i see what look like good deals on there, but i am skeptical and afraid i will be scammed. advice please. thanks.

I've purchased any used lenses but not from amazon. Nice thing about eBay is that sellers have ratings and you can usually tell who is to be trusted. Risk in all things of course.
