So some of you may remember a senior post I did a while back when I was still pretty new here, and still somewhat new to portrait photography. I recall someone's comment about the Eagle coming out of the boy's... yeah they weren't the best, a couple of them were just bad. LOL I know I'll never be "perfect" - the joy I get out of photography is the fact I'm constantly learning and trying to get better.

I recently did a senior shoot for a young lady and I'm pretty proud of the results. I'm open to all honest, constructive C&C, I've got my big girl panties on.

These are FB upload... but I did this shoot 2 weekends ago for a local senior (daughter of a friend.)

FIRST time ever using a white background in studio(natural light from window, lights from ceiling fan directly above, and external flash mounted on camera, bounced off ceiling):

I barely touched her eyes in these...

Your watermark isn't big enough. Hope that doesn't shake up your panites!

LOL!! Not at all. I've been a part of forums where the pro's stopped giving CC because people got their panties in a wad... just trying to avoid not getting any CC!

I'm starting to think I need glasses so take this with a grain of salt, they all seem soft, I could be wrong :P

Your eyes do not deceive you. They're all soft. She's linking them from facebook though.. so that's probably partly why.

I get the same feeling, but I'm thinking it MIGHT be because they are uploaded to FB.

*How long until Schwetty sees "Panties" and "Senior Girl" in the title and he comes running....*

Yes it is FB. They are much crisper than this... which is why I put the FB upload disclaimer, LOL.

Not trying to be mean, but if you want true CC, post the best possible image that you can. Why post up something uploaded to a site that makes it look like a bad shot?

I'm not on my home computer, and don't have access to my originals... I can re-upload later.

Raccoon eyes in some, and poor use of light in all of them.

You didn't number them, so look for yourself.

The dark shadow rings under her eyes make her look like she partied too hard... not attractive.. mostly a lighting issue. The eyes look overly enhanced... looks hard.. makes her look 10 years older than she probably is. The mentioned softness doesn't help, and the watermark is distracting.

I like #3 best.. primarily because the image size precludes seeing the things I mentioned above.

You did a good job of showing off her physical attributes in the railcar shot and the railroad tracks shots...someday, 60 pounds down the road, she'll be delighted to have those photos.

Overall, not too bad. About what most people expect these days I think. Pretty consistent skin tones from setting to setting. No wild "effects". No stupid Dutch tilts. The watermark is pretty obnoxious--I do hope that is ONLY for the web-based photos and is NOT on the images she pays for!

THIS. That was the first thing I noticed in virtually all of them. You needed either reflectors, fill flash or a combination of both. Posing seems a little odd in #1 with the jacket. #2 is kind of nice but really soft on the eyes. #3 my eye is more drawn to the sun as it's the brightest point instead of to her where it should be. #4 should've used a much more shallow DOF to blur out the crap in the background. #5 not bad, but still a little soft.

Appart from appearing soft, some raccoon eyes and some light issues which has already been discussed, I think you HAVE gotten better with your posing. I think the 3rd could stand to be brightened up more and that would make it alot better. Of course take what I say with a grain of salt because I'm new too. But I know I would like to hear what I am getting right along with what I'm doing wrong, so on that note..your posing has gotten better and that means you are learning and taking what you learn and applying it. So keep it up!!!

I cannot agree with the "raccoon eyes" comments; her makeup is dark under the eyes, and the majority of these have big, bright catchlights in the eyes...raccoon eyes is a pretty strong negative to be throwing around. Of course, the absolutely horrific Facebook compression/blurring/destruction makes viewing the details difficult. But raccoon eyes? I think that's a very broad overstatement, not borne out by the photos themselves.
