Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I'm looking for feedback on my composition only. Thanks! ;)

I KNOW these are really blurry and I know the lighting sucks. I'm still learning my new t2i and I didn't bother editing because the pictures aren't of high quality anyway.

thought #3 was a bowl of soup...and i would have NO issue polishing off a lovely bowl of bleu cheese soup fo sho!

def making me hungry.
most seem a bit on the warm side.
ba dum bum...see what i did there?....warm food...warm white balance...

shiiiiiit cmon....

1. i would have liked to see the corner of the burner. cluttered background. more dof.

2. looks like crab legs in a dirty oven.

3. missing the top of the bowl and dof was too small. all the soup should be in focus.

4. i feel like should be shot straight on.. with deep dof.

5. needs a bigger plate. remove other plate and glass from background. deep dof.

6. through away.

7. a crooked waste baskit?

playing with a new 50 1.8?

ftr - i'd love to come over for dinner! :)

#3 is actually home made blue cheese dressing hehe.
They are totally on the warm side. I didn't use any flash. I didn't do any PP on these b/c they mostly sucked. I really need to learn how to use the white balance feature.

Thank you for the feedback.
#2 "IS" crabs in a dirty oven. lol
#3 I agree it was hard working with this lens which produces very shallow dof.
#5 that's the only plate I had to work with.
#6 What didn't you like about the set up of #6?
#7 This is the finished crab.

The lens is a 50 1.4 still learning its in's and out's!

i'm guessing you used a shallow dof for a faster shutter speed to shoot handheld.
try using a tripod and f8/13ish.
I feel like everything on the plate should be in focus.
#6 seems too close and clustered. I think it would look better if you got the whole plate and what was on it should all be in focus.

shallow dof works when you focus on a kid and blur out the background. or a flower or something.
i feel that pictures like these just seem out of focus and leave me feeling like i'm missing something.

i think you're on to something and don't want to discurage you. just giving you my opinion.

keep at it!

Ok seriously.. Crab legs.. steak.. My favorite meals in the world! But with four kids at home, unfortunately not always practical to serve as family dinners... So I get them like twice a year for anniversary and birthday dinners =P

I need your address and phone number/contact information.. And a good time that would work for two adults and four children to stop over for dinner!!!

Oh man..this thread is torture

My stomach is growling now. Yum, and I like the photos too!

#1 What is the subject of the photo? The flame? The Skillet? the meat?
Simplicity is a basic tenent of composition. Eliminate secondary and tiertiary image elements.

#2 It would have been better composed if shot from a lower perspective and from more in front of the oven.

#3 The composition is ok, but little else.

#4 The far plate and wine glass add nothing. Get closer and again more in front of, so it seemsthe viewer is siting in the chair ready to start eating.

#5 To close, back off so the entirety of the crab legs can be seen.

#6 Higher perspective.

#7 To close.

Thanks for the feedback! So yah this was me and the hubs anniversary dinner I cooked up. We have a 13 month old who was sick so I decided to cook. hehe

I'm a total noob so i'm still learning about working with the dof - in the liveview I totally didn't realize they were going to be this blurry :( I think it also might be the lens too right? isn't the 1.4 typically more blurry than say a 1.8?

Seriously I'd have gotten a better stove angle but my kitchen is so small that you can't stand in front of the stove!
