I'm not a fan of selective coloring.

I think this might be a composition where the reverse of 1/3 foreground and 2/3 sky might apply. There is no detail in the sky, but the fog in the distant background does set a mood.

The subject is too centered for my taste.

I would clone out the telephone poles.

I would have preferred to have seen some semblance of water.

Shot 1:
There's actually not much selective coloring going on here... this was taken in the winter so everything is dead and colorless anyway, with the exception of that boat. I did boost the color in the boat, but the fog and seasons played a huge part in the monotone surroundings. So much so that it made me stop my truck and back up 1/4 mile for the shot.

Shot 2 I should maybe explain as well:

It's the bus I ride to work... this was taken in the winter, which already gives a lifeless feel, add to that no sun and darkness when you leave and darkness when you get home.

I wanted to portray that emotion... dead, lifeless, mundane emotion.
