Bought myself a D5000 for my birthday & a 35mm lens for Christmas

Here's the first pictures I've ever taken with any DSLR. Any advice would be appreciated :hugs:

Any advice or tips, anyone?

My advice is try not to crop off parts of the subject, which I'm working on as well. =P
#1. I love this photo, but would've liked it more if you had the entire handle of the pan in the picture.

#2. I would've dropped the camera a little to get a straight on shot of the label. Seems like you are looking slightly down on it.

#3. The heal is cut off... and that affects the picture IMO.

#4. The remote is cut off on the bottom.

Over all... nice focusing! And Definitely a big congrats to your new additions! =D

Remember, your camera works turned sideways as well.

Thank you Genka & Jeweler! I'll keep all of what you said in mind.
I'm liking TPF a lot so far :

Most people (including me) who first get their camera always take pictures of inanimate objects (not saying that inanimate objects don't make good pictures). The pictures probably look good to you because your not used to having good DOF. However if you look at someone else's picture of a shoe you probably wouldn't like it all that much because its just a shoe. Try to get out and take some pictures of something a little bit more interesting. Have fun and congrats on your new camera! :)

Good choice on the 35mm lens. They should come standard with the camera instead of the kit zoom lens.

Nice job bud =°)
Keep it up

I'm new to the photo world myself. I like the picture of the Rum Cream bottle. Perhaps though only because it makes me think of Jamaica..which is where I would rather be than Iowa.
