I like the second photo very much. In my humble opinion, I wish you had not cropped the top and side of the tree. If it were me, I would have backed up a bit more or zoomed out to capture the scene. however, it is a very nice picture.

Another option for #2 is to use that benchy thing a little more as an image focal point, moving in and framing it in the lower right hand side.
