just a couple composition errors. notice how in FOKKer's edit the skyline is about 2/3's or the way up from the bottom of the photo and the left gas pump is about 2/3's from the left of the photo? thats the rule of thirds.
your camera probably has a bracketing feature that will show lines in the view finder that help with composition.
also try shooting in raw and setting the wb in post production. you can then change the brightness, saturation and hue of your sky separately from the rest of your photo. the key here is subtlety.

When shooting a shot like that with a foreground in dim light use a fill flash to balance it out.
