First, a very beautiful model. She's lovely. I immediately notice your tendency to use a bit too much contrast. Focus is missed pretty much throughout. The last one her face is over softened to almost featureless.

All that in mind, your framing is ok and posing is fun. Keep at it!

I agree with Trever.
What aperture are you shooting at? It seems like a very shallow DOF.
Otherwise I really like them. :)

Fitbmx, I was shooting at 1.8.

Trever, thank you for feedback! Used portraitpro which softened the skin.

I used to use PP. use it on its own layer and reduce opacity or just tone it back

The first and last are quite nice, good compositions. The latter could be cropped a little higher. Good exposure and contrast. Focus is the weak point throughout.

That is a little shallow, it makes it really hard to get a portrait that with a good sharp focus on the face. :)

Thanks for the tip :)

What aperture would you say is most common for portraits?

Most will say f8. But even as low is as f2.8 is common, and some will say the f1.8 would be fine. So it is really hard to say, I know you're thinking "Thanks for nothing!" and you would be kinda right there. LOL But am also starting out in portrait work, and f8 has been a good number for for me. It gives you more wiggle room on focus, f2.8 can look really great, but you better be dead on whatever you are focusing on. I am also using a 135mm prime lens, and never use much less than a 70mm, and my camera is a crop sensor. I am assuming that you are shooting with a 50mm, being you are shooting at f1.8. Which I know several people that use 50mm's for portrait work, so you are fine there.
So much of this is up to the artist, and how they like to make their art. :)

why?

Why not separate learning how to take good portrait first, and then learning how to PP portraits. All (4) shots look like they suffer from missed focus, but it could be your PP technique.

PortraitPro makes any portrait look anything but pro
