I skip the reminder sometimes too...

If I skip it maybe 3 times, I notice the difference.

One time is almost no change though.

I have Huey also, however lately when I calibrate the monitor my mouse pointer goes from a white to a fluorescent yellow. I have tried reloading the software with no luck. Any ideas ?

My screen software recommends 2 week recalibration too. I also ignore the reminders until I actually edit photos. While my camera is copying files the colours are running though the calibration tool

Is it only the pointer (that would be weird), or all white objects?

The only things I can think of are that you have a non-standard pointer selected, or that the calibration isn't working for whatever reason.

I assume that there's no weird light shining on the Huey while you're calibrating...?

mine did the same on my LCD tv. make sure the ambient light isn't reflecting funny off the screen

My TV (LCD) has a calibration utility, though I haven't used it yet. (It looks pretty accurate the way it is now.)

I have been wondering if it was worth trying...

Yes the do. Any Mac user ( I are one) knows that if you want too you prints to match your screen and you want to do truey accurate post processing/editing.

They just don't need re-calibrating as often.

Maybe the question should be why LCD? if you are truly serious about soft proofing and color accuracy, a properly calibrated CRT will run circles around any LCD solution under $1k.

Also, I don't think I've ever had a CRT monitor that could match the resolution of my LCD monitors.

CRTs are just so damn big, I run out of desk space for it.

A few are still made, as to resolution, I run 1600x1200 on two 21" CRT's for my editing station. With higher end monitors, 2048x resolutions are supported, though focus and convergence had better be perfect. NEC AccuSync 120's are still available new, I've got a pair in reserve for the day when mine quit. A good tech can get nearly perfect gray scale tracking and color temperature setup in hardware, before you calibrate, it makes a world of difference.

You don't need to spend more than $1k to get quality from an LCD that far surpasses that of a CRT. The myth that LCDs are worse really only applies to consumer crap. A well designed IPS panel with LUT and calibration can best even the top of the range CRT also achieving perfect colour temperature and with greyscale tracking accurate to far below the limit of human perception.
