If anyone tried this before with high speed capable triggers, let me know if it worked.

I just got cactus v5 and these triggers will sync to 1/1000th, i was trying to find a way to use the fastest shutter speed possible and im not sure if anyone did it before but i will try this too see if it works.

I will be using a d7000 to test it. with most nikon camera, to be able to sync a flash in FP at around 1/500th let say, your camera need to have a TTL capable device detected on top of your camera.

I am now thinking of using a TTL cable to mount a sb-600 on a flash bracket and mount the cactus v5 on the top of the ttl cable.

i will be using this cable.

I think that if the camera detect the TTL flash, i might be able to sync as fast as 1/1000th (max sync of the cactus v5) without getting the black band since camera will detect a ttl device. Now flash compensation will need to be set at EV- whatever so it does not contribute to the exposure or even could be used for some fill. I could be totally wrong but ill try it any way.

any though on this?

What remote light are you going to trigger? I'm thinking it would have to be capable of FP sync (repeated strobing) as well.

You could also figure out how much of the frame gets blocked by the shutter at certain shutter speeds. Then, knowing this, compose your shots so you can crop out the useless part.

well, ill test it on everything i have, bowens stobres, opus pro strobes, sb-600's and vivitar 285hv's

Its not the triggers that will limit you, but I suspect most of the lights you mentioned won't FP sync. Please let me know if you find a way on the non-TTL lights.

I have used pocket wizards to trigger my SB900 over 1/1000th, but I have not tried my SB600 because I do not did not think that the SB600 is capable of FP sync.

I will try it out tomorrow though...

The sync speed is not a limitation of the lights or the trigger. It is a fact that the shutter is never fully open at faster than the sync speed. One part of the shutter is closing before the other has opened. This can be cheated a bit, but significantly over sync speed will result in a black band in your frame. There is no way around it other than your flash firing multiple times during the exposure.
