So I'm looking for a camera strap for my Nikon EM, because what came with it, is a piece of (your choice of word).

Anyways I'm for maybe just a plain Nikon strap or getting a something more vintage looking, not sure yet what I want. But what options do I have? As far as decent brands are concerned?

There many to choose from and are really all about personal preferences. However, if you have or ever plan to have any heavy lenses or if you are likely to be out for hours at a time, I would highly recommend nothing but neoprene. It will save your neck

are you more interested in "Appearance" as in vintage or whatever.. or do you want "Performance"... I believe they are mutually exclusive!

I don't need anything performance wise, just something that would look the same era as the camera, whether that be a nikon strap from the late 70s early 80s or something else from that time frame, I just don't know what to look for.

There are so many choices out there.. .its a strap... most of them are simple in design. Just google and search for options....

I've a couple from here:

Camera Straps - Designer Camera Straps

Ive got three or four of these:

Domke 1.5" Web Camera Strap with Swivel Quick 742-1BK B&H

I've got one of these... better for smaller cameras:

Artisan&Artist* Straps

I've seen a few of straps like this around:

Seat Belt Camera Straps

Ebay has a whole bunch of people making tapestry style straps.. too..
I've got a couple of the Domke straps linked to in this post and they are quite nice for a camera that isn't very heavy. One side has two strips of non-slip material on it so that the camera doesn't slide around your neck or off your shoulder. The other side is plain so that it will slide if you want it to.

Genuine, EM-era straps were typically VERY narrow, black, woven nylon...under 1/2 inch, straight, un-tapered woven black nylon...a wider NIKON-logo strap would have the same width on the ends, and then be a little over 1 inch wide in the over-the-neck area, and would be, typically yellow and black or mostly Nikon yellow. From a few years earlier were those ridiculous, really WIDE, kinda-plaid straps..the "mod strap" of the mid-70's...those have a real retro appeal to some people.

If you want the best strap for actually carrying a camera, look no farther than the OpTech brand...top-quality neoprene straps which reduce felt weight by around 50%.

I go with OpTech on my D7000 and Heavy Leather NYC on my D800E for casual indoor shooting, and love my Black Rapid when walking around/outdoor shooting.

I hate camera straps no matter how high quality they might be. I use a Domke bag instead. One strap, very comfortable, and carries a hell of a lot more than a camera. ;)

That being said, I had wanted a vintage 60's/70's style strap and bought this. I hate it as much as any other strap, but it's not terrible.

The Domke bag is MUCH better (unless you're hiking).

Lowepro Speedster or Lowepro Transporter straps for me!!! I have a ton of them!!!
