What's new

Cannery Row Monterey CA C&C

I like the idea of the "old" look, but here's how I think the photo can improve:

-Old look, new people & cars.. Doesn't work.
There are ways to make the moving people disappear, parked cars are much more difficult.
-Foreground is cluttered with signs poles and wires
-The the composition you chose for the building is leading my eye out of the picture

If all you want is snapshot of a memorable vacation, it works. It wouldn't be something I'd hang on my wall.

i agree. I gave it the sepia to make it unified because all the different colors (people, cars, road, poles, etc) were really distracting. I agree,I don't have it hanging up ;) Still lots to learn. how would I take out the people and the poles? Thanks for your input and help.

This is why we get up early. If it would have been a 0630hrs shot all the folks would have been mostly out of the image (one person walking would have given it the sense of scale) and cars would more than likely not be there. Nice place to visit and hang out for a shooting day. When you have folks like this running around and in the shot try looking elsewhere (up), where folks will not come into play. But hey if you are there and that is the only shot you may as well take it.

Like Joe said, get up early to beat the people. Or a tripod, ND filter and long exposure will make moving people disappear too. As for the poles & wires you have to find a way to make them work for you, not against you. Try a bunch of different positions, and different angles. Take your time, it's not like the building is going anywhere....
