canon 40D w/ sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 or nikon d90 w/ kit lens

i'm about to start my journey of dslr photography

i know in another post, i said that i'm about to get a canon 40D, but this decision is haunts me a bit.

i've calculated the costs, and they're relatively the same.

it's either a canon 40D w/ a sigma 18-50mm f/2.8
or
a nikon d90 w/ a kit lens

is it sound to start with the d90, feel my way around, then choose and save better lenses from there. or acquire a canon 40D with a 2.8 maximum aperture standard zoom lens.

also: i'm a bit worried that if i get the 40D with the third party lens, i might regret it because i could've gone with the nikon d90 and a first party lens, though be it a kit lens.

is that worry a legitimate concern? or not really..

Go to a camera store hold a canon 50d and a D90. The 50d feels nice go with that 40d and sigma lens. The nikon feels good go with the d90 and the kit lens. Generally sigma 2.8 aperture lenses are higher quality and made a bit better. Either way both cameras are phenomenal. You will be happy with either choice. The d90 probably has a little bit better ISO than the 40d.
