Canon 430EX II speedlight doesn't display distance indicator

I bought Canon 430 EX II recently, and this is my first flash. one thing I could not figure out is I could not make it display the customized function 00 to display distance, though the manu indicate C.Fn-00 as such a function. any advice, please
