Canon 450D XSI vs Canon 40D

The 40D does have live view.

I'm gonna repeat myself here, because I'm interested to know what you think about this... As my first DSLR, should I start with a rebel, learn the ropes, and upgrade in a few years time? Technology is changing so much, and fast. I know I will want to upgrade to the newer technology, even if my current camera is still good. So...?

Also, the difference between a 40D and XTi is $490. That is a big deal on my budget.

(I think I have fallen for the 40D, but don't know if I can afford it.I think I'm playing games with myself, trying to find flaws with it :roll: )

I was in the Mall eariler today. I happened to walk into wolf camera to take test drive of a few things. The sales person was quick to open the case and hand anything i wanted out. He started small(Nikon d40) :er:, I told him i was probally gonna buy canon, he moved to (450d) :heart:. I like the way she felt in my hands, we seemed to be a perfect match. Now im no photogg expert, ive read a lot and been doing my homework to hone my lacking skillz. Im a mans man, so for me it Go BIG or go home.........He passed me the 40D :hail:. Hahaha! I'm trying to convince myself that that is NOT what I am feeling... But I think I've been bit. My heart wants it, my wallet doesn't.

In the beginning all i wanted was an xti. I decided to wait because of the release of the xsi, after that happened i took a closer look at 40d. I never really looked at it before because i thought it was out of my price range. I want it sooo bad, but the thought of what it will do my bank account is keeping me away....

That's exactly what happened to me! I wanted the XT, but wasn't yet shopping for a camera, then the XTi came out. A little while later, a DSLR became a possibility for me, and then they announced that the XSi was soon to be introduced. While waiting for that, I researched the 40D - oops. That was a mistake! Now I really want it, got to have it, NOW - kinda thing :er:

So you haven't bought it/XSi?

i was torn between the two... both are great but i really wanted the 40D, mostly for the faster fps

i've been shooting a 300D since january of 2004 and the thing about the xsi that made my choice easy: weight/size..... i realized that my favorite time/place to take pictures was when im traveling and there have been many times when carrying my camera and lenses or sometimes just the camera with an attached lens was a PITA (hiking up machu picchu at 6am, for example) so when i thought about getting the bigger and heavier 40D, i quickly chose the XSI

.... so if you think you'll every be traveling extensively (or just walking around with it for a long time) dont forget the weight advantage the XSI has!

Hmm, that true. I take my P&S everywhere, nad I don't want to stop that habit because of the weight. I do alot of camping (hiking) in the summer. Thanks - I'll definitely consider that!

i DOOOOO want to have a 40d.. its just the perfect dslr that i know of know.. taking consideration that the price is reasonable.. but i stil cant afford it for now.. haha x_X so sad. its gonna be so long for me to own one..

do you know about the coming canon 1000d?

Sounds like everyone's in the same boat! We all need to win the lottary, lol!

No, I hadn't heard of the 1000D. Just what I need - another option! I googled it though, and I think I am safe. It looks like it will be a step below the XSi, whereas I wan't something above it. If they were releasing a newer version of the 40D, then there would be trouble!
