Canon 50mm 1.8 problem?

Hi everyone, I recently picked up a pretty used canon 50mm 1.8, but it seems to have some problems.

From about 1' to 2-3' the autofocus seems to work, but further from that it does not work.

Is there any way to fix this? I don't mind taking the lens apart if need be.

( Yes i do understand its a cheap throw-away lens, but i'm a budget guy and if I can fix it that would be awesome )

Note: The MF still works, but the focus ring is very very stiff

Any tips, ideas, etc are welcome.

Well, i found the problem, I took it apart and there is a little metal ring that runs along the outside of the main housing near the focus ring, and it was slightly bent out, and I re-seated it and now everything works fine! yaee!
