Erose86, these are no name brands and they have been making them for 1/5 the price for many many years :). It is like branded ink for inkjets and non-branded except there isn't much at all quality difference.

ahhh, I see, I see...

I refused to pay 40 bucks for a new NIKON branded battery... ( at the time anyway)
I bought 2 spare batteries off amazon. ( 7 bucks a piece) after checking them through reseller ratings, and watching there feedback.. I can honestly say i dont see a bit of difference.. and they work GREAT! worth 7 bucks.. absolutely.

The only thing i was concerned about.. was, is this cheap ol' ass Battery gonna blow up and ooze crap in my camera and ruin it... but i did alot of reading around.. and i guess a battery--is just that " a battery ".

Id go for it.

Id go for it.

I wasn't really in the market for a battery, I was just wondering why the hell it was so cheap.

To be honest... I'm paranoid... I still don't know that I'd trust it unless it were a brand I knew or at least coming from a store I was familiar with. I'd be worried about it essploding all over my baby's insides too...

I'm glad it worked out for you though! :)

Well they have a 10 year warranty on them as well.. and if they DID explode.. Id have to kick someones' ass...then make them buy me a new camera..haha. ( Seriously though..:x rawr!) lol

*IF* you can afford the 40-60 bucks on a "canon" brand.. I wouldnt hesitate... but i couldnt at the time..haha.

I see what you mean though.. i was like why....... is it like 30 some bucks CHEAPER.. or even 40 some in most cases.... Somethings not right.....

Haha, yeah...

I want a back up at some point, but I'm not shooting for long enough periods at a time to justify the purchase just yet... $40 or $8. I have to prioritize and put that explosive $8 towards an SD card upgrade... or a 50mm lens instead...

Good Choice. you going for the 1.4 or 1.8? ( 50mm)

Well, the last round of exploding batteries were named brand batteries made by Sony (Laptops). I don't think the brand matter as much though since even the named brands one can get them wrong (in this case, way wrong :))

The ones to avoid are 'counterfeit' batteries. The will have the brand name on them (Canon, Nikon, Sony etc.) but will be slightly different and oddly cheap.

Off-brand batteries like these, are often a good option. I've been using off-brand batteries for 5 years now. They were dirt cheap and last longer than the Canon ones.

I have heard some say that they do tend to wear out faster, but considering they are 10-15% of the price, it's still worth it.
