Canon: light metering at something else than the subject

lol, that would seem like the obvious choice, but we're not allowed to "walk in the food" at the university. That's grass or something for the cows and pigs and horses and cats and whatnot, hehe. Just practising :) And the cars were only in 50 km/h (at least that's the speed limit there). If I were at the highway, the speed limit would have been 100 km/h.

Question: would faster cars make panning easier? On one side, I could use a faster shutter speed, thus, it would seem, making it easier to get a sharp shot. On another side, panning faster might be harder, and as cars get closer, I'd have to keep up and pan faster. Right?

I would say yes. If you go to my website you'll see a lot of panning shots.

I'm thinking 1/40th is still too slow for hand held whether it's panning or not. Might want to bump that shutter speed up some more. Your subjects have motion blur.

Well, in that case the cars were going too slow :P

And Schwettylens, it's good to know people arn't just looking at me panning them :P
