Buy "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It's a fraction of the cost of your camera body, but far more valuable. What you're asking is so broad based and full of variables.

Uh, which Mark II? Canon has made several.

Edit: Here are all the MKII's Canon has made - 1D MKII, 1Ds MkII, 1D MKII N, 5D MKII.

Canon LOVES names. Their cameras are actually called Canon EOS - 1D MKII, Canon EOS - 1Ds MKII, blah blah blah.

The there are the Canon EOS Rebel's that have different names depending what par of planet Earth they are sold on.

A case in point: the Canon EOS Rebel T3i is sold here in the US. In Japan the same camera is the Canon EOS Kiss X5, and in the rest of the world it is the Canon EOS 600D. Whew!

By the way EOS stands for: Electro-Optical System.

You'd be better off learning what each of those modes are and how the camera behaves in each one, and then you'd be able to answer your question yourself. Read your manual, pick up a book (Understanding Exposure, as suggested, is a good one), take a class, or at the very least google "exposure triangle."

It's the 5D and thanks guys I was up until 1am google searching and I down loaded Understanding Exposure I read some of that. I learned a tremendous amount last night I've been shooting the kids in the pool all day with great results. Can I get some ideas on a good walk around lens for all purpose?
