Capturing eyes

I've noticed that many photographers are able to capture the eyes of their subjects in a way that makes the eyes really stand out in color and vibrance ... is this done during the editing phase ? Or is there a way to get these results solely through the lens?

An under-chin reflector can make a nice catchlight in the lower eyeball area, and really adds life to the eyes. A good light source that is pretty large, above the subject, with the subject in dimmer overfall lighting, like open shade between buildings or alongside a building with a bright sky above, can create a nice catchlight on the upper eyeball surface, and make the eyes really POP! SHooting in open shade in the evenings, with tghe subjects turned toward a bright expanse of light-colored sky can also create beautiful catchlights on the eyeball.

It's ALL about "the light", and how the subject is placed.

As stated, it's all in the lighting...these were taken on a bright, sunny day. I was able to find some great open shade...
