Love the second shot. The shadows and the texture and the color. All of it. But especially the shadows.

Yeah, the second shot has intriguing location, subject, and LIGHT. I like the light that was there! I am really diggin' that reflection of her puffy skirt on the floor.

The first shot, the darkish eyes and the very hot highlight on the nose....make me not like it much. I just have an aversion to that yellow skin that results with so many digital cameras when skin is over-exposed....it's not the loss of detail that bugs me, but rather the strong yellow tone...is just clashes with her makeup, and really strikes discordant notes within me. I'm not sure if it's because I learned on film, or what.

Thanks Derrel...I saw the yellow and toned it down as much as I dared, and looking at it again it is a fail ....

Second one.. my reaction was "WOW."

Third one is great, too, and I like certain aspects of it even more than the second, but overall the second is KILLER.

I'll join the #2 club. My first impression was that it was a painting - I'm sure someone does dancer paintings in that style. I'd tell you what's right about it but I think there's too much to list.

That's the kind of image you could print, sign and sell in expensive galleries.

The second photo very much reminds me of a Sargent painting, excellent. This is one of the few times having your subject closer to the side they are looking at works because the shadow she is casting is an integral part of the composition. Rules are made to be broken. bravo.

Besides being lit by the window, was there some kind of fill light going on? I'm still learning to "read" light in a photo.

it's just lit by the window, no fill apart from natural reflection from the wall and floor

I love #2 - everything comes together so well - the light, the shadows, her posture, the positioning in the frame. Needs to be printed big - 4 ft. by 6 ft. I think it's that good.
