Cats and dogs through the eyes of a first time DSLR user

Hello. Just got my Nikon D40 and over the last couple of days I've been slowly exploring it, taking snaps of many things but also animals, which as I found out, are painstaikingly hard to photograph (my cat always wonders off or affectionately rubs against the camera lens). Theyre a little small, but you can also see large versions.

They're not perfect but for a beginner, I'm happy with them. :wink:

Just for fun, my crazy cat:

They were all taken as standard quality JPEGS with no PP (I can't even do it yet :lol:). Dog pics on non flash mode to get the warm tones with higher ISO and slower shutter speed but the cat was taken in auto with flash.
 
The lighting in the dog shots is a bit too orange for me, he kind of blends into the background, though I love his expression in the last one - he looks totally bored. The cat shot is classic! Nice capture on that one.
