Awww that pic is precious!! What kind of horse do you have? What kind of riding you do??

Its hard to tell in my b/w but Bosco is a Rocky Mountain Gelding 12y.o. 14.3h Chocolate with Flaxen mane :) I love his color combo in colored shots gosh that mane of his POPS!

He is a connemara Connemara - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, i ride motorbikes my partner rides him, she does show jumping and showing next year dressage

Beautiful horse! I really like the lighting on his (her?) face. The crop feels kind of tight to me, but I'm not really sure how I'd want to see it framed... hm. Maybe just pulled out a little more?

Sabrina won't

With the exeption of #3 (which i like) I agree with your comments.... but NOT your horse photo. Lacks contrast and exposure.

Looked perfect when her dad bought a £200 canvas :sexywink: and i only shot it for fun i made it darker thats what she wanted , no point spending more than 2 minutes on it

She could have still had it dark, and still properly exposed. Heres my edit. 2 minutes more you could of had a properly exposed, vibrant, sharp dark photo with a good contrast :sexywink:

I love shooting horses also i get lots of chances owning one. Shot 1 is too head on for me, eyes are too dark and colors are not right WB seems a bit off, Love the interaction in shot 2 but not a big fan of 3, shot 4 the horse look like it's in deep thought. In a lot of my shots i set up speedlights and studio lights if there is power, if you want to see some fantastic shots of Horses/Dogs and other animals take a look at this photographer Tim Flach
This was an impromptu shoot with one of the young girls at the stable using 1 580EX and a white umbrella

His work is amazing!

I thought you would like it

I don't have much of an opinion on the 3rd and 4th pictures, but I really like the 2nd and am sort of 'meh' about the 1st. I like the contrast of the 1st a lot (but I'm a contrasty sort of guy), but I don't like the head on-ness of it. Horses have such interestingly shaped heads, and by shooting it head on you've managed to reduce all that shape to one long, narrow...blob. I think it's an okay pic, it's just sort of boring IMO.

But in shot #2 I think you really did a good job. I like the quality of the B&W (the shading on Jackson's neck and jawline looks great!), and overall I think it's just a really nice picture.

I def agree with shot #1. She was walking towards me and I said WHOA to try to get her to stand and she did and I snapped the pic. I wish I had just gone off to the side a hare and had her turn her neck just a bit. so I could get the true shape of the horse head.

I dont print out most of my stuff for my house unless its my son. I printed that pic of Jackson and Bosco and gave another copy to Jacksons owner. That picture actually won peoples choice award. I got Bosco thru a rescue ranch and they do an anual calander. Def nothing super fancy as far as photography goes and this one peoples choice and a diff one I hadn't put up here yet won the cover :)

Thanks for the tips!

I just looked up his work! It is amazing!!

I used to shoot more action, but seem to do more studio and outside with flash

Awesome photos!! I moved from CT to WI. Well in CT and that area there were a LOT of photographers who would shoot horse shows. Now I dont show never have maybe will. We trail ride our butts off. But I do go to shows with my friends to watch and help. Ive noticed out here they dont have any photographers at the shows! I want to get into the horse show photography scene out here.

I have a couple of hook ups and am going to ask around. I'm a beginner but I'm not charging anything for horse shows etc etc. I want to make a page like how you have so if folks want to order the pics I can dothat for cheap. I love kids and horses. I find horses easy to shoot, maybe b/c I've studied them so much, their body language, riding, training etc etc...

If you have any tips I'd love to hear!
