well... i tried alot with this one, really just a couple new techniques... like heavy skin softening, and a whole bunch of adjustments in lightroom

i guess i was going for kind of a painterly effect

You're going for a "painterly" effect with a pseudo low-key image...just doesn't seem right to me.

The skin blemishes REALLY stand out here...clone stamp is your friend.

The face has a "blur halo" of sorts...looks odd.

The highlights are underexposed for this type of shot IMO, bring up the exposure, clone out the blemishes, don't blur so much (keep the face edges sharp...right now it looks plastic) and you may have something halfway decent. Also...the red tape on the hat is distracting.

I think this is more what you were going for or maybe something similar to this.. I may be wrong. I'm no stranger to being wrong. Happens all the time. BUT it looked to me like you were going for the Dave Hill effect. Supported by the file name of this image.

The nose shadow really bothers me. It looks like camera shake or something even though I know it's not.

Sorry, but this is not flattering to yourself. The profile may not be the best choice for lighting, and processing is sloppy, instead of paint effect, it just looks like skin smoothing gone wrong.:(

Try something new, get your lighting better, crops better( you missed the chin in the above photo)

turn it BW and leave it to that. the colored version isn't working too well to be honest

ok, just trying new things... ill take this into consideration and try again
