Changing picture settings (contrast, saturation, etc) ??

The only thing i have changed as far as default settings for the picture is i bumped up the contrast and saturation a bit.
I notice that the pictures look different once i upload them...Lightness, darkness, skin tones....
Im sure its a personal prefrence..but is there anything else i can change to get the pictures to look more "normal" as far as color.
