Changing the logo of TPF

Only if you tried to profit from it or represented it as legit.

I doubt it. I could create another forum, call it The Picture Forum, use that logo, and prevail in court.

It's about as far from a Derivative Work as you can get. The forum owners do not own the basic design of a 35mm camera. No one does. It's public domain.

Nor does anyone own rights to the abbreviation.

I don't even remember what the first logo was...something Chase made up somehow. Then, a few years into this place, we actually did run a contest for a new graphic design, and there were lots of really nice submissions. Better than the cheesy first one. I think that lasted until the sale of TPF in 2009, and our current owners put the present one in place.
