Can others edit my Photos

So I watched some Adorama tutorials today, and decided to go out and mess around with what I learned.

I was messing with the on camera flash (yeah, I know, I know) and correcting the exposure, like the guy in the videos talks about where the camera meters for the ambient light and not the flash light. Just messing around really.

Here are the results!

Well, to me the main thing about these isn't the flash, but the depth of field. With so much of the background in focus, it gets rather confusing. Flash in day time is most useful when you need to shoot against the sun, or if you want to reduce the amount of hard shadow on the subject. I think the flash can still be dialed down a little.

I agree. Since I was going for a "portrait" of the chickens I need shallower depth of field. Practice practice practice! Still, I'm happy with the exposure, which had been giving me trouble recently, I'm glad I figured it out to my liking.

Thanks for the response!

You do realize that a Cow just commented on your Chickens.

Yes, balancing ambient and flash is not easy ... you did a good job on your first time.

Oh hey! Hahaha, didn't even notice that!!!

And thanks for that, just goes to show how good those Adorama tutorials are! I learned a lot!

Yea you did good on the first shot, but a shallower DOF would have been cool.

Not bad, keep watching those tutorials and keep shooting!

Thanks for the reply MWG!

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go out every day and take pictures of my fowl and post up the pictures on this thread, see how the progression goes.

And yeah, I'm addicted to Adorama's website now because of those tutorials, haha.

Like everyone else said, the first thing I noticed about these photos is the background and the hoses on the ground.

Hoses are part of the effect, it's a damn farmyard out here, haha. In the second one you can see a wheelbarrow waaay back there. I'm surprised no cows wandered into the frames by mistake, that happens a lot out here. But I definitely see your point.

Drip irrigation. And thanks!

Haha #4 on the second set made me chuckle, in a good way tho. i like the shot but watch the shadows covering part of the birds. The lighting is a bit harsh, try shooting in the early morning as the sun rises/right after, or an hour or so before sunset. I know the early morning is tough but the lighting would be sweet!

Agreed, what time were these taken at? I like the 1st shot but you blew the highlights on his...........................face? lol

These were taken today about an hour ago (7pm mountain time). The sun's still up, maybe I'll go and snap off a few more...

And "face" works, haha.
