I use Kundalini's #1 photo technique with mine. My finger doesn't touch the glass, just the edge so it stays smudge free.

been looking round and I think this will do the job:
= 72mm 72 mm Metal Lens Hood for Telephoto Lens FS on eBay, also, Lens Hoods, Camera Lenses, Photography (end time 20-Jan-09 06:05:06 GMT)
I think that is a screw in lens hood - however I am not certain, has anyone any experience of this hood?

I actually asked this same question here a few months ago. I still have the problem, though. I stick my finger down the hood to turn it. This works OK with my 17-50, but is a royal pain with my 100-300mm f4. I wish the hood screwed into the filter.
