Hi All,

Okay so I managed to get my D7000 speaking to my SB600 (off camera) :) Now curious about what settings I should be using. Only seems like I can shoot with Manual Setting, not TTL (which I'm accustomed to). As a standard practice, would you adjust power off the bat, or test and adjust power accordingly? Also, this may be a dumb question, but do you match the zoom on the flash to the zoom on the lens?

....but do you match the zoom on the flash to the zoom on the lens?
That's what the zoom on the flash is for, but it can be changed for artistic reasons.

Just about everything else you need to know is in the camera and SB-600 user's manuals.
TTL is more complex than just using manual modes.

What are you wanting to accomplish?

Either, or... knowing my equipment and having a bit of experience, I can usually make a close-ish guess as to where my exposure needs to be. Your best bet is just to play around and gain some experience. Matching your flashe's zoom setting to your lens setting is also a good starting point. As you become more skilled, you'll be able to use changes in these adjustments to advantage.

If the flash is off camera, then the actual distance between the flash and your subject will also have an effect on the strength of the light on your subject. I typically use the built in diffuser to soften the light and put the SB600 about 3ft from the subject. You can't select TTL mode? It seems like I can and it shows on the SB600 also.
