Cobra Pictures for C&C

#3 and #4 are the best IMO. did you have to get up close or were you zoomed in a lot? Nice pics Though!
Thanks, I agree. I took over 300 pics but most were OOF or just not quite right. They were taken with an 18-55mm lens (mostly zoomed in to 55)

Does it spray?
nope but the male did bite the end of the snake hook and inject quite a lot of venom for a small snake. Had that been my hand, I would be dead.

Is that a Spectacled Cobra? Nice shots too.
Close, it is a monocled cobra. Naja kaouthia

holy cow or cobra i mean. my wife would flip if i had a corn snake as a pet never mind a cobra.
a friend of ours had a western diamondback for a pet and im not allowed to take our son over there.

That's too bad, snakes are awesome animals. Your friend would not happen to be David T. would it?

I like how nobody's talking about your photos. Everyone's still shocked that you have a freaking venomous cobra in your house. :lmao:

haha, its okay, someone will drop in eventually I hope.

Photo 3 is the best of the bunch, so I think. Focus is right, we get a perfect view, the tongue's out, light is good, composition is pleasing.

Apart from the fact that this snake looks good.
Albino snakes look special, I think.

Where I live, private persons must not keep venomous pet snakes. Only zoos or smaller animal parks that operate commercially and have specially schooled personnel may keep them. In other parts of Germany, private persons can do the schooling, get a certificate, and may then keep venomous snakes. But it does require the necessary schooling so you will know how to handle them.

I prefer to only have our two very tame, totally non-venomous snakes in our house.

Thank you.

That is strange because I know quite a few Germans that keep venomous and that is where all of the good venomous snakes come from (Lots of breeders of snakes we can't normally get here live in Germany because of the relaxed CITES and importation laws).

Not sure what it says about your photos, but they were good enough to scare the ****e out of me!

Nice pictures.
I like #3 the best.
Snakes are way better than spiders!!

Nice photos! I like #3 and #4. I love animals but something about snakes and mice gives me the jeebies!

Thank you. Here is how we set up the shot. It was in a sealed courtyard with 3 others standing by in case of an accident. I used a cypress knee and some weeds to put together a makeshift studio and used the natural lighting.

Wow! You've really got to love snakes to do this! I thought you were shooting some sort of glass enclosure....yikes, I couldn't even be an observer!

Thank you, I do. I had to decide weather I wanted to study photography or herpetology (tough decision but I had to go with snakes).

My personal favs are #2 and #3 simply because you're eye level with the snake. It "puts you in the action" so to speak. So, do you own any other awesome "pets"? haha, I'll keep my pythons forever but I can't image owning anything venomous.

some of my others (some of them are terrible pictures, sorry):
