i used a pretty standard setup. I spilled my jar of coins onto a desk and had a fluorescent desk lamp. I just adjusted the lamp at an angle to the coins and shot the pics using high shutter speeds.

wow i just looked it up, that would make an amazing close up shot unfortunately i don't have a 1920's St. Gaudens $20 gold piece somewhere in my pocket haha

Not too bad actually! I like the greenish tint, and the way the lighting accentuates the nicks and surface textures on the coins.
