I often find myself wondering if a picture looks better in color or b&w. Is there a good rule of thumb for when one may be more appropriate over another? This is the same shot one just auto enhanced in Aperture the other Auto Enhanced + B&W w/ a blue filter.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

For me the color version. The blue blur in the background draws my eye to the flower

I see what you're saying ... in the color version its a blurr in the b&w its a blob lol ;)
thanks!

I like the color version a lot more. Maybe you could try desaturating it only partly, and perhaps adding some kind of bluish/purplish tint for a creative effect.

When form is more important than color - B&W. When color is more important - color.

Is there a good rule of thumb for when one may be more appropriate over another?

This photo looks better in color to me.

Paul Simon says everything looks worse in black and white. :)

I like the color one.. nice blues.

Love the color one ! The contrast of colors are just right

Thanks for all of the input
