Colorful Vase

Just trying out my new 50mm f/1.8. I love the lens so far.

EDIT: Here are the settings I used.
Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Exposure: 0.013 sec (1/80) Aperture: f/1.8 Focal Length: 50 mm ISO Speed: 400 Exposure Bias: 0/3 EV Flash: Flash did not fire

This is a nice vase, the colours come out well.
I also have this 50mm lens and am still struggling with putting it to any really good, pleasing-to-the-eye use at fully open. I find it difficult to manage. Or I have so far always chosen the wrong subjects? Maybe...

Compositionwise I a) agree with the cropping idea and b) would have liked to see more of the vase in focus inside the frame and the out-of-focus vases a little less prominent (slightly changed POV = point of view).
