Comfort - a portrait

We recently shot this during a family photo session. His comment to me afterwards was that if we could make him look good in a photo we were worth twice our fee. I think this one came out pretty good, too.

What are your thoughts?

I think it's way way too soft. I can see why there's the gaussian effect, but it's too much, IMO.

And, why are they asleep? Nope, it just doesn't work for me. It might have worked ok with HER eyes closed, and his open, or the other way around, but this strikes me as "damn, we're tired" and not "Oh I love you sooooo much".

I'd also like to see a little more detail in the shadows on this shot- her hair is obviously very dark, and it's fading into the background.

I dont mind soft focus, but I think its cropped too tight, both model's faces are cut, that gives it a weird feel
